Dear Friend,

Governor Patrick’s bill to consolidate the regulation and oversight of proprietary schools, An Act Relative to Oversight of Private Occupational Schools (H3625), is still under consideration to be taken up by the full House. We need your help to ensure its passage.

GOOD NEWS UPDATE

The House and Senate versions of An Act Improving the Educational Rewards Grant Program to Assist Low-Income Workers were combined into H3803 and reported out favorably to the House Committee on Ways and Means. We thank you for your strong advocacy for this very important legislation that will preserve the state’s only grant program available to low-income students enrolled in college part-time. The bill will also create a pilot program to increase the supports available to students to ensure their successful completion of education and training programs. We will let you know how you can continue to help as we move this bill forward.

Take Action

We ask you to please contact Speaker Robert DeLeo (617.722.2500) and your Massachusetts state representative and ask them to support H3625 and make it a priority this session.  It will establish clear lines of authority over proprietary schools and create a more effective system to protect consumers.

Thank you for your support.

"For-Profit Colleges and the CWU Client Experience": "The for-profit college industry (also known as proprietary schools) has been described as 'marketing machines masquerading as universities.' For-profit colleges are educational institutions that are run by private, profit-seeking companies or organizations. Despite the criticism, the for-profit college industry continues to expand more rapidly than other areas of higher education. ..." Continue reading...
